AS A THIRD YEAR BA (HONS) JOURNALISM STUDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF LINCOLN, SPECIALISING IN RADIO NEWS PRODUCTION AND MAGAZINES, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DEVELOP VALUABLE TRANSFERABLE SKILLS UNDERTAKEN THROUGH MY COURSE MODULES AND OUT-OF-STUDY CONTRIBUTIONS. I’VE ALWAYS BELIEVED COMMUNICATION, TEAMWORK AND PLANNING IS A VITAL PART OF THE INDUSTRY AS WELL AS EVERYDAY LIFE, WHICH I HAVE ACHIEVED THROUGH VOLUNTEERING AS A REPORTER/CO-PRESENTER ON LINCOLN’S FIRST COMMUNITY RADIO STATION, SIREN RADIO AND THE UNIVERSITY’S TV OUTPUT TEAM LSJ NEWS. I WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE MY JOURNEY IN THIS EVER –CHANGING, FAST-PACED AND EXCITING SECTOR FOR AS LONG AS I CAN, GAINING FURTHER KNOWLEDGE AND CONTRIBUTING CREATIVE AND UNIQUE IDEAS.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • My most recent placement was volunteering at the BBC Radio 3 Festival of Ideas. I was involved in a number of roles including, audience engagement, and microphone handling, attending to guests in the Green Room and back stage and managing the front desk reception alongside other BBC members (9th-11th March 2018).

  • I shadowed ITV Calendar’s Lincolnshire reporter Kate Hemingway for a day, assisting two on-location interviews and watched a live broadcast plus, the scripting and editing stages of putting a package together (19th February 2018).

  • I was lucky enough to be accepted onto the BBC Radio 2 Daytime and Children In Need placement for nine days. I shadowed several radio programmes including The Jeremy Vine Show, The Zoe Ball Show and Simon Mayo Drivetime. As part of the press I attended an AS Live recording of Bob Harris’ country show at the BBC Maida VaIe studios. I was able to speak to news presenter Justine Greene and travel presenter Bobbie Pryor as well as head of music Jeff Smith and social media content producer Tom Collinson. I helped to set up for the Chris Evans. On my last day, I was responsible for greeting Children In Need guests as Pudsey Bear (7th-17th November 2017).

  • I currently run my own monthly radio show called Sound and Country Vision on Siren Radio. I research, plan, organise and conduct interviews with artists and host the show (September 2016 – current).

  • I am currently a reporter/presenter for LSJ NEWS, the University’s TV and online news platform. I am involved in a number of roles including planning, script writing, filming and presenting (September 2016-current).

  • I was an external writer for online platform; Pretty 52 producing lifestyle articles. In April 2016, I was invited to the Pretty 52 headquarters for a day in Manchester to meet the team and discuss future ideas. (February 2016 - May 2016)

  • As part of the LSJ News team, I was lucky enough to interview James Dyer from Empire Magazine (November 2016).

  • I currently co-present on a show called The Midweek Drive on Lincoln’s first community radio station, Siren Radio.

  •  I also attend on-location reports along with Southsidebroadcasting at various events across the country including, The Lincolnshire Show, The Lincolnshire Food and Gift Fair, The Burghley Horse Trials and The London Film Festival, while also contributing to social media content (November 2015- current).

EMPLOYMENT

  • As a School Ambassador for English and Journalism, I am responsible for assisting student applicants in television and radio workshops on interview and open days (January 2017-Current).

  • I’m an Art Shop Assistant at the University of Lincoln, responsible for cashiering, stocking up art supplies and helping out on open days (February 2016- current).

  • Part-time: Associate at T.K.Maxx at Brotherhood’s Retail Park, Peterborough, responsible for cashiering, working on the fitting rooms, altering displays, stocking shelves and providing excellent customer service. (May 2015-September 2017).

  • Part-Time: Supervisory role at the Queensgate Hotel in Peterborough – responsible for providing attention to detail, taking orders and leading food service both in the restaurant and during events. (July 2014-September 2014)

  • Part – Time: A waitress at the Bluebell Michelin star public house and restaurant in Glinton – responsible for greeting customers, taking and delivering orders and cleaning. I left here briefly due to another part-time job opportunity but later returned (October 2011-July 2014) – (September 2014-May 2015).

EDUCATION

Currently a BA single, honours Journalism student at the University of Lincoln. The course is NCTJ, BJTC and PPA accredited and recognised by the European Journalism Training Association. I have chosen to specialise further in Radio News Production, Magazines and Advanced Feature Writing in my final year of studies. Previous areas of study completed include, Television News Production, Newspaper and Magazine Production Incorporating Digital Elements, Origins of Modern Britain, Journalism Skills, Essential Law for Journalists and Public Affairs.

 COMPLETED NCTJ EXAMS:

Essential Media Law (PASS), Essential Public Affairs (PASS), News Reporting (PASS), Production Journalism (PASS), Shorthand at 60wpm.

  • I was lucky enough to be a part of the Arthur Mellows Village College Academy New York media trip, vising various landmarks and media related aspects such as the Museum of Moving Image (February 2012).

INTERESTS

  • I have a keen interest in travel, fashion, music and media. In my spare time I enjoy perfecting my presenting skills through LSJ News, researching, preparing and conducting interviews with artists for my radio show on Siren Radio and engaging via social media.
